In this world of competitive advertising for small online businesses, I believe there is an untapped resource to be used for free advertising through the social networks. This avenue is called Twitter. Twitter is an easy to use engine of posting small snippets of information across the web at break neck speeds. People place updates of their daily lives to other people placing mini advertisements for their businesses. There are major corporations that use Twitter. The Department of Defense even has their own Twitter site. So if this is such a great tool to use to advertise the social network, why aren?t more people utilizing it?

So, what is a straight headline? Or a bent one?

It is fairly apparent what the difference is.
But being able to pull it off when using a bent headline is something else altogether.
The big mistake that inexperienced copy writers make is to fail to reinforce the headline with solid product facts. They fall into the trap of keeping the tone off beat, and feel they have to keep amusing the reader with more joke laden copy.
Don’t.
If you use a bent headline, keep your body copy clean, concise, and full of benefits.

The images you use in your leaflet design can also be straight or bent.
But this where it can get complicated. Generally, you should use a straight image if you use a bent headline. And vice versa.
It takes a talented designer to use both a bent headline and image.

There is much more to this, but I am only outlining basics in this article.
Let us now move on to the Typeface, or Font that you employ in your leaflet design.

First and foremost, and the absolute cardinal rule when deciding which font to use is readability.
Readability, when all is said and done, is what it?s all about.
So, before you commit one word of copy to your masterpiece, ask yourself some simple questions.
- Who will my likely reader be?
- What purpose am I trying to achieve with my leaflet?
- Where will it be read, in what context?

I would strongly advocate sticking to the tried and tested faces such as Arial, Times, Helvetica and Gill.
Having said that, if you want to purchase a non standard font, one which will work superbly in almost any situation, take a look at ‘Frutiger Ultra Bold’ (Frutiger has many variations, Ultra Bold is one which looks great in print and is very versatile)

Once you have picked your typeface….stick to it. Don’t be tempted to use various other fonts to spice up the copy. Frutiger Ultra Bold for your headline and Frutiger Bold for all your sub copy will be just fine. Try it for yourself and see. You are aiming for simplicity, clarity and impact.

Ok, so now you have a killer headline.
You have chosen a great typeface.
What next?

Well, now we need to look at concepts like ?benefits and features? and the often subtle difference between the two. Use of space; too much and too little. Calls to action and other important facets of what makes a great leaflet design.
Get them all right in one advertisement and you have a winning proposition on your hands.

Sony Ericsson have recently been searching for a way to refresh their brand logo, it appears now that they have done just that. Ever since Sony and Ericsson became one back in 2001, the design of the logo hasn’t been altered. It has always been the green liquid like center wrapped in a silver casing, until now.

Although the actual business logo design isn’t going to be changed, the colours used within the design are going to be modified. What they are going to do is change the liquid center of the logo in an attempt to refresh the look of the brand. They have already generated a group of logo examples using a range of different colours like blue, pink, brown and purple. No figures have been released about how much it cost them for the re-design as I assume they hired a logo designer to do the job.

This news comes as Sony Ericsson want to try and update their advertising look prior to the release of their ‘biggest ever’ marketing campaign. The 8 million pound campaign will be promoting their Entertainment Unlimited proposition which is made up of their new models the Satio, Yari and Aino. It also includes the release of their PlayNow music and film download service that they will be running.

The last big advertising campaign that the company did was back in 2006 where they replaced the heart symbol with the Sony Ericsson logo in different sentences. This campaign started the use of bright, vibrant colours in the adverts in an attempt to make Sony Ericsson stand out from other mobile makers.

Alongside their new advertising campaign they are going to be running a competition to win some football goodies. Once their marketing campaign begins next month, if you buy one of the Aino, Satio or Yari phones, you will have the chance to win tickets to the World Cup next year in South Africa.
